Magical Blogorail: The Best Things to Happen to Walt Disney World in 40 Years

Welcome to those of you joining me from Manda's Disney Blog and those of you just hopping aboard.  I am the 4th stop on our Magical Blogorail.

Well, this month we have the very easy, non-general topic of "The Best Things to Happen to Walt Disney World in 40 Years." That's not a broad topic at all, right!? Here are my top picks:

-The "Classics" have remained. When Walt Disney World opened in 1971, it housed the following attractions: Cinderella’s Golden Carousel, Country Bear Jamboree, Diamond Horseshoe Revue, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, Frontier Shooting Gallery, Hall of Presidents, Haunted Mansion, It’s a Small World, Jungle Cruise, Mad Tea Party, Mickey Mouse Revue, Mike Fink Keel Boats, Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, Skyway, Snow White’s Adventures, Swiss Family Treehouse, Tiki Room, Tomorrowland Indy Speedway and Walt Disney World Railroad.

-In the same vein, while a good number of the Classics have stayed, WDW is constantly reinventing what it means to offer new entertainment. Another one of the best things to have happened is the announcement of the Fantasyland Expansion, to open in 2012. There's nothing like the excitement and anticipation of what Disney will unveil next, and this is the biggest "upgrade" the Parks have seen in a long time. We can look forward to new dining opportunities, new attractions, new character greeting areas, and more.

-On a random note, I'm pleased that the Carousel of Progress theme song changed from "Now Is the Best Time of Your Life" to "Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow." I think the latter is just catchier, but you be the judge:

Original Song:

And new song:

-This might be a given, but I think one of the best things that happened to WDW were the openings of Epcot in 1982, Disney MGM (now Hollywood) Studios in 1989, and finally Disney's Animal Kingdom in 2001. This is what sets the Orlando complex apart; the ability to expand and GROW. It also creates many diverse experiences for families when they travel.

-I am SO GLAD the Wedding Pavilion opened in 1995! No, I wasn't married there, but who knows - I might just do a vow renewal! I love that Disney expanded into the wedding industry. I can't imagine a more magical experience!

-This is such a SHORT list - I could go on and on with this topic! However, this is just a little sampling of all the wonderful things that Disney has been up to 40 years. However, the most wonderful, beautiful, and amazing thing that has happened to Walt Disney World in 40 years is. . .

When my daughter visited for the very first time last January!!!

Yes, it was the most magical thing I could've witnessed. And I daresay that The World has not seen a more cute or more enthusiastic visitor! That's what these 40 years have been about. Families creating memories; generations passing on the traditions; children (of all ages) experiencing the rite of passage. It's been an awesome 40 years, and I can't WAIT to see what's next!
